About TempSys
TempSys is the designer and manufacturer of the CheckPoint Wireless Temperature Monitoring System and Fetch Real Time Location System, located in Emeryville, California, right across the Bay Bridge from downtown San Francisco. We provide an end-to-end solution to meet the needs of our customers. We design and manufacture all of our own hardware and software and our fully trained in-house installation and support technicians can provide full support of our system.
The CheckPoint system had its start in 2002 as a temperature system for the foodservice industry using off-the-shelf wireless sensors and our own custom software. We quickly realized the opportunity for a more advanced temperature monitor system, one that would require creative thinking and take advantage of some advanced engineering necessary to overcome the limitations of existing technology.
In 2004, our engineering team began the development of the CheckPoint G2 sensor system. We incorporated two-way communication and onboard memory so that each sensor would individually retain data and prevent data loss during a network interruption, computer failure or other catastrophe. Numerous reporting features and non-temperature measurement values were added at the request of our customers, and we dramatically expanded the software to include self-diagnostic capabilities and optimizations for the sophisticated capabilities of the G2 system.

- In January 2006, the first G2 system was installed at the new Genentech biotech facility in Vacaville, CA. It featured:Two-way communication to ensure safe data transmission
- Frequency hopping to minimize interference
- Data logging memory capacity
- Splash-proof housing
- Locking probe connectors
- Combination repeaters/access points capability

We continue to enhance the CheckPoint system and software to respond to the demands of our clients and the changing needs of the healthcare industry. For instance, after working with the FDA Laboratories to help with their own ISO 17025 certification, we incorporated all the new features into our standard software to benefit every customer facing regulatory and audit requirements, including CFR 21 Part 11. Numerous customer driven software enhancements and reporting capabilities have already been incorporated. and new features are constantly added to our list of future enhancements. These and many other features make CheckPoint the most robust and reliable system available.
In January 2008 we released the G3 system with improvements, more capabilities, new sensor types and increased the sensor memory capacity to 7 days.
In June 2011, we released the G4 system with a new sensor enclosure design. We designed a totally new printed circuit board and used the latest power sipping radio chip that extends the 2 AA alkaline battery life to over 5 years. We added numerous enhanced capabilities, such as a network connectivity status light, door status cable connector, 30-day individual sensor memory, and a creative, patent-pending method to replace a sensor without having to change the sensor ID number in the software. Most importantly, the G4 system can work over the same repeaters and Access Points and interface with the Fetch, Real Time Location system. This will future-proof our customer’s investment as we believe that RTLS will one day become standard equipment for all hospitals.
Next to be released in April 2012 is the WiFi G4 sensor which is the same as the G4 in performance and functionalities, but can communicate directly with the facility’s WiFi network. Repeaters and Access Points are not longer necessary. At the same time, we will also release the WiFi Fetch RTLS where the locators will communicate over the WiFi. This will give the option to our customers to either use the existing WiFi infrastructure, or use a separate 900 MHz wireless repeater/access point network that we can provide.
