Wireless Temperature Recording System

CheckPoint is an automated, wireless, computerized remote temperature monitoring, recording and alert system to replace chart recorders, data loggers and manual temperature log reports. The software program is designed to meet HACCP, ISO 17025, USDA, FDA, and regulatory requirements. The system installs on an existing PC and comes complete with installation, training and support for a total quality solution.

Miller Packing is a USDA inspected sausage manufacturer in Lodi, California. Since 1910, the Miller Packing Company, maker of the official hot dogs for the Oakland Coliseum, home of the Oakland A’s and Raiders, has continued its tradition of producing only the highest quality Hot Dogs and Sausages. Miller Packing continues to proactively invest in new technology to assure the quality and safety of all its products and chose CheckPoint to wirelessly monitor the temperature throughout its entire plant to help meet USDA requirements.

CheckPoint wirelessly monitors ten refrigerated and freezer areas within the plant, including processing rooms, the kitchen, freezer and cooler storage rooms. Across a parking lot in a separate building, a cooler and freezer holding hundreds of cases of hot dogs are also remotely monitored.

Miller Packing plant maintains complete and accurate temperature records to meet the required USDA documentation requirements. Every stage from receiving, production, storage and shipping are monitored and recorded in compliance with Miller’s stringent HACCP procedures.

The standard operating procedure requires the maintenance manager to log in to the CheckPoint program every morning to actively verify that the temperature of the processing rooms is at or below the required 41° F before production begins. With CheckPoint, verifying the temperature throughout the plant takes less than one minute, unless a temperature alert has occurred and corrective action must be taken.

CheckPoint’s alert escalation automatically continues to fire the alerts to higher levels of managers if timely corrective action is not taken. It is especially important on weekends when the plant is closed, and no one is immediately available on the premises.

The computerized and accurate temperature records made possible with CheckPoint has enhanced HACCP at Miller Packing. The real time, detailed records provide the data needed by the maintenance department to keep all equipment at peak performance.

The cool down monitoring of every batch of cooked sausage is tracked by CheckPoint. The recording process is now automated, providing real time temperature data to the operators during the entire process. The computerized HACCP data sheets are accurate and irrefutable with complete details for every chill down phase to be in compliance with USDA regulations. The program can differentiate the cool down time & temperature requirements based on product type.
